Indian Seed industry.

Indian Seeds Industry Opportunities in Indian Seeds Industry  The Indian seed industry is the eighth largest in the world with an estimated value of INR 49 billion (USD 1.06 Billion) and with an annual growth rate of 12% to 13 %. The industry has shown a buoyant growth over the last two years on well supportive monsoons. The development of private seed industry is no more confined to just production and marketing of seed. It has well acquired technological strength to cater to the varietal needs of tomorrow. Along with industries Indian farmers have in recent years adopted intensive cultivation practices in order to meet the growing demand for agricultural produce. If we look at the production capacity 70% of India’s seeds’ sales come from farmer bred seeds, 26% from those bred in publicly financed institutions, and only 4% from researched hybrids. The domestic hybrid seeds market is placed at INR 4.9 Billion and is annually growing at 10% a year, against the 5% glob

Agriculture in Germany

History Agriculture in Germany is a small sector of the German economy. It has declined in importance during the 20th century and by 1989 amounted to only 1.6 percent of the West German GDP. Although agriculture's share of East German GDP was twice as high as in the west, even after the two economies are completely united, agriculture's share of GDP is expected to amount to only about two percent. However, despite the sector's small size, it remains politically important. The number of farms had decreased steadily in West Germany, from 1.6 million in 1950 to 630,000 in 1990. In East Germany, where farms were collectivized under the socialist regime, there had been about 5,100 agricultural production collectives with an average of 4,100 hectares under cultivation. Since unification, about three-quarters of the collectives have remained as cooperatives, partnerships, or joint-stock companies. The others were returned to their original owners - if those owners cou

AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING: A FUTURE AHEAD.

Agricultural engineering combines the disciplines of   animal biology,   plant biology, and   mechanical,   civil,   electrical   and chemical engineering principles with a knowledge of agricultural principles. It utilizes the knowledge of engineering for making agricultural machinery. Some of the specialties of agricultural engineers include: the design of   agricultural machinery,   equipment, and agricultural   structures crop   production, including   seeding,   tillage,   irrigation   and the conservation of   soil   and   water animal   production, including the care and processing of   poultry   and   fish   and   dairy   management the   processing   of food and other agricultural and bio-renewable products, and   food engineering. Reliance’s new biofuel business model to provide fuel with food

The global food versus fuel debate will be rendered irrelevant by its biofuel business model, claims Reliance Life Sciences or RLS. “Our model is unique in the sense that it reverses the whole argument of fuel versus food, which the Western world is currently battling with, (as it leads) to fuel with food, with the promotion of food intercrops,” says K.V. Subramaniam, CEO and president of RLS, part of the Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd or RIL group. The company says it is currently testing intercropping of jatropha and pongamia (non-edible fuel crops) along with a diverse set of food crops including corn, mango, medicinal plants and vegetables in its research and development farms at Gandhar in Baruch, Gujarat, and Nagothane in Raigad, Maharashtra. The Seed Industry includes

The Seed Industry includes: 1. Genetics & Plant breeding: Breeding is a creation of variation in strength for any seed producing organization. The qualified breeder should have a creative and selective eye towards selecting plants for breeding programmes. 2. Agronomy: Agronomy is called the “mother of agriculture”. Before release of the new hybrid seeds or varieties, it is mandatory for the seed producers to test the seed for multi location trials. Agronomists also have the opportunity to look after the seed production units. 3. Entomology: Damage to crop by insect pests is common. The entomologist designs crop-wise admissible insect levels using various crop protection techniques and crop-insect specific control measures. 4. Biotechnology: Biotechnology has paved the way for the introduction of transgenic crops. Biotechnologists can determine seed quality parameters faster through simpler molecular techniques and Genetic marker studies. 5. Seed Technology:
