VEGETABLE SEED INDUSTRY

India has taken a bold step towards self sufficiency in food. However, self sufficiency in the true sense can be achieved only when each individual in the country is assured of balanced diet. This created an urgent need for providing health security to our population by supplying nutrition through balanced diet. Indians are predominantly vegetarians and depend on vegetables for bulk of their nutrients and minerals. More recently, the role and usefulness of anti-oxidants present in vegetables in human health has been demonstrated, adding value to this set of crops. Vegetables cultivation has been known to stimulate development because it is labour intensive, earns higher returns and involve extra skills. Development in vegetable production will therefore contribute not only to food and nutritional security but also to poverty alleviation and income generation. DOWNLOAD FULL FILE FORM HERE.

Microprocessor Based Agriculture Instrumentation

The credential part of this paper subjects the application of microprocessors in providing better measurement and automation systems in the field of agriculture. Agriculture being the world’s oldest and most enterprising industry requires improvements in quality evaluation and control of its products. And Indian economy being predominately agriculture based should make the best use of this technology to obtain best results. Sustainable agriculture is the requirement of this century to maintain the sustainability so as to entertain the needs of population even under the limited land and other resource availability. It can be better defined as the one which over a long term enhances the environmental quality and farming community as a whole. As electronic sensing devices, microprocessors provide a wide range of application in agriculture such as better management of fertilizers, measurement of moisture and nutrient content of soil, monitoring the crop environment. These sensors are als...

Impotence of Crop Rotation

Crop Rotation By : Ron Heiniger, Crop Science Extension Specialist, NC State University and Molly Hamilton, Extension Assistant, NC State University The importance of crop rotation in an organic production systems cannot be overemphasized. Select a rotation sequence of production crops and cover crops based on the specific characteristics of the field. This is particularly important in the first few years of an organic production system because the transition period will set the conditions for success. Rotation sequences should be designed to: reduce weed pressure by minimizing the amount of weed seed produced and reducing perennial weeds; increase the amount of mineralizable nitrogen in the soil; reduce the incidence of insect and disease pests by eliminating hosts and interrupting pest life cycles. This usually requires combinations or rotations of crops that attract or harbor different insects and diseases, fix nitrogen, inhibit weed growth, and enhance the soil. The fo...
